Wanda Kay (Hawes) Long

June 5, 1951 - March 10, 2023 (age 71)

During the morning hours of Friday, March 10, 2023, while in the comfort of her home, Wanda Kay Hawes Long, of Clarendon, entered into the joys of the Lord, while surrounded by her family; she lived a wonderful life of 71 years.

A native of Nakina, N.C., Wanda was born on June 5, 1951, daughter of the late Vinson Hawes, and Theldene Watts Hawes.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Worthington Funeral Home, with Pastor Buddy Seay and Pastor John Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Watts Family Cemetery, Nakina.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening, at Worthington Funeral Home.

Wanda held a 30-year career in the cosmetology field, and upon her retirement, she began babysitting children, showing them nurturing love and care. Wanda was also a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.

To cherish her memory, Wanda leaves behind her two beloved children, Dawnda K. Long of the home, James David Long, II and wife, Vanessa, of Derby, KS; two grandchildren: Cassie Long and Aden Long; siblings, Brenda Hawes Edwards and husband, J.P., of Chadbourn, Alan V. Hawes and wife, Lynette, of Shallotte.
