Suspect Bites Officer During Scuffle

A fleeing suspect allegedly assaulted and bit a Chadbourn Police Officer while being arrested Oct. 22.

Teddy Roosevelt Peppers, 56, was held under $13,000 bond on three charges of failure to appear, and one each of resisting an officer, assault on an officer and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, according to warrants. His address was listed on court documents as 111 E. Fourth Ave., Chadbourn.

Police were responding to a seizure call when they saw Peppers, according to the warrant. Peppers allegedly refused to obey verbal commands, then ran from officer.

Sgt. Corey Bethea was attempting to detain Peppers when he allegedly ran from police. When he was detained, Peppers fought with Bethea, and when Peppers was told he was under arrest, he bit the officer, according to the warrant.
