SCHS Cheerleaders Have Eyes on Hawaii

Maddy Benton, Ryleigh Hayes, and Kaylee Waggle hope to spend part of their summer vacation in Hawaii, but not just as tourists.

The three South Columbus cheerleaders have been nominated to attend Cheer Hawaii. The intensive summer camp allows cheerleaders from across the country to enjoy workouts with cheerleaders from across the country, develop their leadership skills and learn from some of the top coaches and cheerleaders in the country.

The three juniors had to have good grades and demonstrate leadership skills to be considered for the program. All three have been cheerleaders for six years.

The week in Hawaii includes visits to the USS Arizona memorial as well as other activities, but it’s mostly about developing the girls’ skills as cheerleaders, according to the GoFundMe page set up by Christina.

The goal for the fundraiser is $12,500, which will be distributed evenly among the three. Cost of the camp itself is $2,895 per girl, not including airfare and other expenses.

The three are also pursuing other fundraisers, Waggle said in the post. To donate, see their GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/4d754357.
