One Hurt in Shooting; Stolen Weapon Recovered

One man was wounded and a second is in custody after a shooting in Whiteville Thursday (today).

Brice Pridgen faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injuries. Additional charges are pending, Whiteville Police Chief Doug Ipock said. Bond was set at $25,000.

Police were called to a shots fired call in the area of West Lewis Street and MLK around 3:30 p.m., Ipock said. The victim was on the scene, and was treated by first responders.

The officers’ quick response led to Pridgen’s apprehension, Ipock said.

Two 9 mm handguns and two rifles were recovered, Ipock said. One of the rifles, a Delton 5.56 mm, was reported stolen. The second rifle was a 7.62 mm Riley Defense.

The Whiteville Police Department asked that anyone with information about this incident contact Det. J. Ward at 910-642-5111. You can remain anonymous.
