No Snow for Christmas

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

A slight shift in the atmosphere has once again ruled out a white Christmas for Columbus county. Meteorologist Christopher Cawley notes that the chances of a White Christmas here are now next to zero. Even the "optimistic" long range models are now leaving the region high, dry and cold throughout the next week.

"I hate to play the Grinch," Cawley shared in a social media post.

At the same time, frigid temperatures will become the norm later this week. Lows in the 20s and highs struggling to break the 50 degree mark -- with many being lower -- will be in place for Christmas Eve and the days thereafter. Emergency officials are urging everyone to provide for your outside pets, keep faucets running, and check the heat source in your pump house before next weekend. Make sure your heating system and fuel are ready as well, since many fuel suppliers and service technicians will be closed for an extended weekend beginning Friday.
