Melee on WHS Bus Brings Charges

Charges are pending after a melee on a school bus Wednesday at Whiteville High School.

An adult allegedly boarded a bus at the school just before 8 a.m., and threatened a student, according to the sheriff’s office. The adult initially refused to exit the bus, and argued with the bus driver.

Four juveniles then attacked another teen who was trying to get off the bus, resulting in injuries that required treatment. Another teen, a bystander not involved in the fight, was injured.

The ages of the suspect juveniles range from 11 to 16. The apparent target of the attack is 16, and the bystander was 12. The adult suspect is 37, the report said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
