Lake Charter School Library Gets Boost


Thomas Academy at the Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home has been awarded a $26,000 grant for the library.

The Jimmie Johnson Foundation announced $468,462 in grants to 18 schools in North Carolina this week. Projects that will benefit from the grants include libraries, STEM education, art programs and more.


The foundation was started by Jimmie and Chani Johnson in 2006 in their hometown of Charlotte. The foundation has given out more than $13 million in grants to schools across the nation.

Thomas Academy is a North Carolina Public Charter School for middle and high school students. Located on the campus of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina in Lake Waccamaw, the academy provides a tailored academic experience to students who are oftentimes in need of a more specialized, integrated curriculum.
