Javil Ottoway Stocks, age 90 of Nakina, peacefully passed away on November 04, 2022.
He was born at the family farmhouse in Old Dock, NC to the late Matthew Gaston and Oneta FormyDuval Stocks. He was married to Sena in 1953 and they lived together on the farmland next to his parent’s home and within earshot of siblings and one of his children.
Ottoway, also known as J.O. or Knot by his siblings, was a lifelong farmer who appreciated the labor of growing and harvesting crops. He was very fond of his pecan trees and grape vines. He was also a skilled farm mechanic and carpenter. Ottoway loved his Creator, his family, and his farmland. He was happy living a simple life, walking the fields, conversing with everyone, and spending time fishing and oystering in the intercoastal waterways.
He never tired of riding his tractor or eating fish. He was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church.
He is survived by his faithful wife, Sena and all four of his children; Jeff, his wife Patsy and their two children: Bradley and his wife Erica (Brice, Blake, Emmy) and Jonathan and his wife Paula (Jax); Martha; Stephanie Seeber, her husband Donald and their five children: Rachel, Stephen and his wife, Hannah, Jamie (Daisy), Christina (Vanna), Robert; John, his wife Angel and their two children: Kendall and Aubrey. He is also survived by a younger brother Jack and his wife Susan; his sister-in-law, Linda, wife of Ray (deceased); his only sister Sally Batten and her husband Earl, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Palmyra Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery; Pastor Jeff Stocks and Pastor John Robertson will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45, prior to the service on Monday, at the church.
A meal will be served following the funeral in the fellowship hall, all are welcome to join.
