Dorsey Leaves Lake Board

Lake Waccamaw Town Commissioner Rosemary Dorsey stepped down from the town board Nov. 2.

Dorsey, who previously ran against Mayor Matt Wilson for the town’s top post, said she resigned for “personal reasons that make this the best decision for my family and me at this time.”

“Please know that I have always tried to make decisions in the best interest of the community,” Dorsey’s letter to the board said. To those who voted for me, I apologize if you feel that I have let you down.

“I hope you understand that stepping into the limelight and serving can be a great sacrifice, and being subjected to ridicule, judgement false narratives and ugliness that has become all too familiar in politics is very difficult.”

Dorsey was elected in 2019, and ran against Wilson in 2021. She is well known as a conservation advocate at the lake, and authored a measure to limit removal of certain types of vegetation along the lakefront to prevent erosion. The move was defeated.

The town board will appoint a replacement until the next regular election, which is in 2023. That person will serve out Dorsey’s unexpired term.
