Diane "Danie" (Hinson) Munier

February 18, 1923 ~ October 10, 2022 (age 99)

Diane died on Monday October 10, 2022 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington; she would have celebrated her 100th birthday in February of 2023.

She was born on February 18, 1923 in Cerro Gordo, NC, the second child of five siblings, to Worthy and Lura Hinson of Cerro Gordo, NC.

Diane exceled in school, graduating at the age of 16, directly enrolling into nursing school. She worked in Jacksonville, NC, where she met the “love of her life” at Camp LaJeune- Corporal Paul Munier, USMC. They married in New Bern, NC, and then moved to upstate New York, where she lived for over 40 years, raising her two girls until Paul’s death. She moved back to North Carolina starting a new chapter of her life in Leland, NC.

Her passion was gardening, and she worked endlessly in her yard. Her efforts paid off with a beautiful garden to show for it, especially her roses. She loved reading, math and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed playing scrabble and was brilliant at it. She was a huge country music fan and enjoyed going to concerts, singing and dancing with her love.

She had four true loves in her life- her husband, her two girls, whom she was very proud of, and her fur babies; she loved every pup as if it were her child, and she cared for all animals deeply. She enjoyed sitting on her porch watching and listening to the birds. She often said, “when you see a cardinal, it’s a loved one visiting.” She loved when family visited at Thanksgiving and right up to last year at 98, she made them dinner. Diane loved and lived for her family.

Diane was preceded by her husband, Paul; her parents, Worthy and Lura Hinson of Cerro Gordo; two brothers, Connie (Evelyn) Hinson, Otis (Margaret) Hinson, all of Cerro Gordo; her sister, Geranie (Graham) Lewis of Whiteville; her nephew, Richard Todd of Leland, and niece, Peggy (Hinson) Wilson of Evergreen.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen J. Wejrowsk (Patrick) of East Greenbush, NY, Debra S. Batza (Stephen) of Leland, NC, and grandson, Vincent Batza of Derry, NH; sister, Inez (Ray) Todd of Leland. Diane has several nieces and nephews: Teresa (Todd) Soles of Castle Hayne, Craig Hinson of Cerro Gordo, Cathy Hinson of Cerro Gordo, Rudolf Hinson of Cerro Gordo, Ernestine Hinson McLelland of Cerro Gordo, Billy Lewis of Whiteville, Sharon Lewis of Tabor City, Susan Lewis Bullard of Whiteville.

A graveside interment service will be held at the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery in April of 2023.

Our peace comes from knowing she is in the arms of her beloved husband, with her mom and family, and God. She is at peace and is happy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a local Humane Society, in her name.

If Roses grow in Heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for us. Place them in our Mother's arms and tell her they're from us. Tell her that we love and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, we do it every day, but there's an ache within our hearts that will never go away.

Love you, Mom- Your girls
