Christmas Events Still Ongoing

As the count down for Christmas begins, the area still has many events planned for the holiday season. Churches and businesses are spreading some cheer in Columbus.


  • Abundant Life Assembly of God will host a turkey shoot on Dec. 16-17 from 7 - 10 p.m. There will be concessions, ladies and kids rounds, and more. The church is at 5384 James B. White Highway South in Whiteville.


  • The Whiteville Fun Factory will host a Breakfast with Santa event on Dec. 17 from 9-11 a.m. The meal will include scrambled eggs, sausage patties, rolls, pancakes, juice, coffee, and water. Tickets are $25 per person, and spots are limited. Call 910.207.6136 to reserve your spot. The factory is located at 42 Hill Plaza.


  • Have a visit with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Pierce and Company. The jolly ole elf and his team will be available for pictures and hearing those Christmas lists. The store can be found at 4229 Sam Potts Highway in Hallsboro.


  • The Boys and Girls Home of N.C. will have hundreds of nativity scenes on display on Dec. 16-17 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Leamon Rogers Memorial Chapel. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served. The BGHNC is located at 400 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.


  • The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum will have their annual bake sale on Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. Pound cakes, pecan pies, coconut pies, lemon pies, and pineapple cream cheese balls can be ordered ahead of time by calling 910.646.1992. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of historical accession software. The depot is at 205 Flemington Dr., Lake Waccamaw.


  • Western Prong Baptist Church will host the Sportsman's Banquet on Dec. 17. Registration is at 5 p.m., and the event will begin at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will include Roy Graham, Jimmy Sites, and Joe Hamilton. The evening will include door prizes, dinner, and more. Tickets are $10 each. To reserve your spot, call 910.642.7744 or 910.770.1773. The church is located at 167 Peacock Road in Whiteville.


  • The Hallsboro Baptist Church will hold a live nativity Sunday, Dec. 18, from 7-8 p.m. The drive thru display will depict the Bethlehem birth of Christ. The church is located at 551 Hallsboro Road South.


  • The Real Whiteville Santa is open for business until Dec. 23. Santa is posing for pictures and listening to Christmas wishes at the little white house next to Farm Bureau. His hours will be Wednesday-Saturday from 3:30 - 7 p.m.. Santa’s house is at 113 West Smith Street.
