Chadbourn Detective Unhurt After Crash

The pursuit of a stolen car in Chadbourn led to a crash in Tabor City tonight.
Det. Corey Bethea of the Chadbourn Police was treated and released after his patrol car was struck by Dion Morrison of Lumberton. Chief Ken Elliot said Morrison faces multiple charges, ranging from possession of a stolen vehicle to felony fleeing to elude arrest. Morrison was also wanted in Lumberton, Elliot said.
Bethea attempted a traffic stop on Morrison in Chadbourn at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Elliot said. Morrison immediately fled down N.C. 410 to Chadbourn at a high rate of speed.
Chadbourn and Tabor Police, along with Columbus deputies, intercepted Morrison in Tabor. Deputies deployed tire deflation devices -- commonly called StopSticks-- and flattened the tires on the stolen car.
Morrison swerved after his tires blew, smashing into Bethea's car. The suspect was not hurt. We'll have more on this story later, at ColumbusCountyNews.com.
