Carol (Lennon) Garrell
November 18, 1941 ~ October 26, 2022 (age 80)
Carol Lennon Garrell (November 18th, 1941 – October 26th, 2022) peaceably passed away in the early morning hours at the age of 80, about to turn 81 in November. She resided in the Knollwood Life Plan Community in Washington, D.C. Carol was born in Whiteville, NC to Henry Grady Lennon, Sr. and Lelan Tart Lennon. She married Major (US Army Ret.) Bobby Melvin Garrell on December 29th, 1959.
During her early adult life, she and her family traveled greatly in dedicated support of Bobby’s military career including living in Germany from 1972 – 1976. Returning from Germany, Carol spent the rest of her professional life in Fayetteville and Sanford, NC working for various credit institutions. She was an expert credit manager receiving numerous awards for District Manager of the Year for her diligence and success.
She devotedly attended LaGrange Park Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and choir member – ever loving to sing praises to the Lord. She especially loved Trust and Obey and Amazing Grace. After retiring from work in 2003, she lived in Washington, D.C. and Charlotte, NC with loving and supportive sons. In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, collecting small angel figurines, and feeding and watching the birds.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sons, EMC/SS (US Navy Ret.) Robert M. Garrell (Karen), Major (US Army Ret.) Mark L. Garrell (Jean), and Mr. David C. Garrell (Tracey). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Travis, Sydney, Jacob, and Michael. Carol had 8 siblings. She is preceded by Eva, Melba, Rebecca, Henry, and Mary.
She is survived by Rachel, Margaret, and Sally.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 30th, 2022 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel in Whiteville, NC. Interment will follow at Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service, 2:00-3:00 pm on Sunday at Peacock Funeral Home.
