Breaking News: Two Arrested for Dothan Homicide

Two suspects have been arrested for Monday's shooting of a Dothan Road teen. Jeremiah Nyree Long, 18, was shot to death in a field in the 3800 block of Old Dothan Road, according to the sheriff's office. Jalen Amari Campbell, 19, and a 17-year-old male have been charged in the killing. Both were arrested in Socastee, S.C.

Deputies responded to the Dothan Road location below Tabor City Monday just before 1 p.m., in reference to a gun shot wound. Deputies located the victim in a field, where several individuals were administering first aid. The deputy provided emergency first aid efforts until Nakina Rescue arrived to take over. Long was transported to the hospital in Loris, South Carolina, where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained.

Investigators identified both suspects, arresting the juvenile Jan. 24 and Campbell during the early morning hours of Jan. 25.

Campbell is in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County. He is being held on a fugitive warrant, awaiting extradition to North Carolina. In North Carolina, he has been charged with murder for the death of Long.

\The victim was a senior at South Columbus High School. Grief counselors were made available to the student body beginning Tuesday.

The killing was the fourth this year in columbus. Julian Fipps was shot to death on MM Ray Road Jan. 8. A Tabor City man is in jail in that case. Two stabbings in Whiteville are still being reviewed by the District Attorney's Office.
