Betty Jo Garner Barnes, 77, of Tar Heel passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. She was born in Bladen County on Oct. 15, 1945, daughter of the late Edward Garner and Margaret Carroll Garner. She is preceded by her parents; two sisters, Lendra Dove and Carolyn Garner; and brother Larry Garner.
Betty Jo leaves behind her loving husband, Ray Barnes, of the home; son Edward Lewis Barnes of Tar Heel; daughter Betty Rae Warren (John) of League City, Texas; and brother Randy Garner (Sandra) of Tar Heel.
Betty was a hardworking, talented lady. She played the piano and loved gospel music. She always looked forward to attending the National Quartet Convention in Gatlinburg, Tenn. and going Christmas caroling. Her hobbies also included shopping at the beach, mountain trips, cooking and doing word puzzles. Her warm smile and beautiful voice will be missed here on earth but can now be heard in that heavenly quartet.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 in the Allen Cemetery in Dublin with Dr. Mack Roberts officiating.
