Betty Jean (Dawsey) Britt

Betty Jean Dawsey Britt, 82, of Chadbourn, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Premier Living and Rehab Center in Lake Waccamaw.

Betty was born on April 1, 1940, in Conway, S.C., the daughter of the late Eleck Wilson Dawsey and Veronica Guila Harrelson Dawsey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Britt; son Roy Steven Britt; siblings Doris Veda Capps, Hulon Elbert Dawsey, Albert Leon Dawsey, Talbert McNeil Dawsey, Eleck Wilson (E.W.) Dawsey Jr., Melvin Isaiah Dawsey, and Hallie Clifton Dawsey.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Merle A. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Betty was a 1958 graduate of Chadbourn High School and later graduated from Selenia Commercial College. She retired from the North Carolina Forest Service where she served as Whiteville District Clerk from 1962-1992. Betty was also a member of Smyrna Baptist Church for approximately 47 years. She was very talented and enjoyed gardening, drawing, crocheting, pottery, cooking, sewing, and reading.

Surviving family include her loving children, Karen Jean Britt and Angela Lee Britt “Angie”; sisters, Margie Summersett of Whiteville, Mary Hammonds (Marcus), of Chadbourn, and Carolyn Simmons (Ken) of Chadbourn; and special friends Ramon and Lisa Wix.
