Alleged Shooter Jailed in Fipps Homicide
A Tabor City area man is in jail for the Jan. 8 shooting of Julian Fipps.
Xavier Antonio Rayquan Thomas, 21, was arrested Wednesday by deputies and Horry County Police, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. He is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting extradition to Columbus County.
Deputies were called to MM Ray Road in Clarendon around 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 9 to a shots fired call. Columbus Central also received multiple calls about an overturned vehicle in the area.
Julian Juan Fipps, 31, was found dead in his Jeep Wrangler. The release said he had sustained multiple fatal gunshot wounds.
A number of empty shell casings were also found in the area, the release said.
Investigators searched the Jeep and “cellular devices,” the release said, and interviewed several people in the area. The evidence led investigators to Thomas, who was eventually captured in South Carolina.
Sheriff William Rogers thanked Whiteville Police, the Brunswick Sheriff’s Office, and Horry County for their assistance.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 910.640.6629.
