Adelaide Corine (Pridgen) Lane
1923 ~ 2022 (age 99)
Adelaide Pridgen Lane of Chadbourn entered the gates of heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on December 17, 2022, where she passed away at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center (Angel House) surrounded by her family. She was 23 days shy of celebrating her 100th birthday.
Adelaide was born in New Hanover County on January 9, 1923, to the late Douglas L. Pridgen, Sr and Oneida Capps Pridgen. In addition to her parents, Adelaide was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Thomas (G.T.) Lane, brother Douglas L. Pridgen, Jr, sister Judy Rogers, brother-in-law Hershel Rogers, and daughter-in-law Jody McKoy Lane.
Adelaide married the love of her life, G.T. Lane, on March 09, 1941 after he received orders to report to the Army during WWII. After WWII, Adelaide left her hometown of Wilmington to relocate to Star, NC for G.T.’s first assignment with the NC Highway Patrol. They would then move to Asheboro and Randleman before settling in Chadbourn in 1957. Adelaide fell in love with the small, strawberry town and became very active in the community.
She was a member of Chadbourn United Methodist Church for over 65 years where she taught Sunday School, served as treasurer, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. Adelaide was also a member of the Klondyke #197 Order of the Eastern Star for over 30 years and exemplified the values of the organization - honesty, dependability, trustworthiness, loyalty, charity, friendship, and kindness.
She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her boys and grandchildren. Her other hobbies included reading and crochet. After moving to Chadbourn, she went to work with A&P Tea Company to be able to buy a car. Later, she would work with Lewis Income Tax Service during tax season and Producers Warehouse during tobacco season.
Adelaide is survived by her sons, Tommy Lane and Greg Lane; grandchildren Christie Lane Brown, Douglas Lane (Angi), John Kevin Lane (Christian), Joey Lane, Michael Bonner (Beth), and Yuli Bonner; great-grandchildren Ariel Sibbett, Samantha Lane, John Austin Lane, Samuel Lane, Isaac Bonner, Moria Bonner, and Cohen Bonner.
A celebration of Adelaide’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Chadbourn United Methodist Church 300 E. 2nd Ave. and officiated by Pastor Donna Hammond. Interment will follow at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 prior to the service.
