Board, Hammer, Knife Fight Leads to Jail

Deputies were called to Old Lumberton Road Sunday morning after a fight involving a board, a hammer and a knife between two relatives.

Johnnie Mack Evans, 72, was charged with a single count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was held on $10,000 secured bond. His address was listed as 1147 Old Lumberton Rd., Whiteville.

Evans and his stepson, Quintillies Dawson, 62, reportedly got into an argument that escalated, according to the sheriff’s report. Evans first threatened Dawson with a board, then threw a hammer at him before pulling a knife and advancing on Dawson.
