Godwin Breaks RBI Record

Karli Godwin
Karli Godwin signs with Oklahoma State.
Last week, East Columbus senior Karli Godwin was holding ‘Special Friends Day,’ and this week, she’s breaking the Runs Batted In (RBI) record in a single season. The Gators softball team went up against the Pender Patriots on Tuesday, May 9, and Godwin averaged 79 RBIs after hitting two homeruns during the game.
Godwin’s average only includes her junior and senior year at ECJSHS. The pandemic waylaid her freshman year, and she attended school at Columbus Christian Academy as a sophomore. She recently signed on with Oklahoma State University to join their softball team upon graduation. She will be studying Business and Special Education at the college.
Godwin says she plans to represent Lake Waccamaw with pride when she hits the OSU field.
“This is a part of being in something bigger than myself. I want to make everybody proud, and just kind of show them what Lake Waccamaw is all about,” said Godwin.
The Lady Gators won the game against the Patriots 15-7. The second round of playoffs will take place at the ECJSHS ball field on Friday, May 12.
