Convicted Felon Sought For Handgun Theft

Whiteville Police are searching for a local man who allegedly stole a handgun from a gun shop, then cut off his ankle monitor.

Justin McPherson is alleged to have gone into Country Boy Outfitters on Powell Boulevard Monday and taken a handgun from a display cabinet, according to Det. Scott Moody of the WPD. McPherson waited until a clerk was away from the counter, then grabbed the gun and fled.

After McPherson was identified on video, WPD contacted Probation and Parole for McPherson’s whereabouts. It was discovered then that he had apparently cut off his ankle monitor.

McPherson is being sought on warrants of possession of a firearm by a felon and theft of a firearm. He was previously convicted of trafficking in narcotics and breaking and entering, with numerous convictions of firearm related offenses, including possession of a firearm by a felon.

Anyone with information about McPherson’s whereabouts is asked to call 910.642.5111.
