It was Homecoming Friday night at Legion Stadium, and the Whiteville Wolfpack improved their record to 7-1.  After their 21-7 victory over the West Columbus Vikings, they remain unbeaten in Waccamaw Conference play.

Whiteville struck first with 7:43 left in the first quarter when Quarterback Luke Odham found the endzone from 5 yards out. After Grayson Creech added the extra point the Pack led 7-0. The West Columbus defense forced a punt late in the quarter.  a couple Viking lineman broke through the line and blocked Aston Hammonds’ punt.  West Columbus took over on the Wolfpack 22 yard line. Two plays later Unique Kelly found Jaylen Bellamy open in the endzone for a 22 yard strike. After the extra point, the first quarter ended with the score knotted at 7.

In the 3rd Quarter with 3:18 left on the clock the Wolfpack took the lead for good when JT Todd plunged over the goal line giving the Pack a 14-7 lead after the extra point. With 5:46 left in the game Whiteville added a little security when Odham scored his 2nd TD of the night on a 2 yard run.

Offensively, Odham carried the load for the Wolfpack earning him the Kool 103.9 Player of the Game for the 2nd straight week. Cameron Eady was the spark to the Vikings offensive having a very impressive night pounding out yardage for West. Whiteville’s defense stepped up again for the 2nd week in a row allowing a single score against 2 offensively explosive teams. Will Fisher had an interception for Whiteville.

The Wolfpack are on the road this week as they travel to Heide Trask to take on the Titans this Friday night. This game will be for outright first place in the Conference.   In other county action, West Columbus will host Pender Friday night to determine the top team in the 1-A division of the conference.
