Cocaine at Checkpoint Sends Three to Jail

Lightbar on a car

Cocaine and cash sent three men to jail Saturday in the Dothan area.

Jamie Mejia Garrido, 36; Juan Enrique Guerrero, 32; and Jaime Mesia, 21, all of Bolivia, were arrested on charges of felony cocaine possession and drug paraphernalia. Guerrero was also charged with driving while impaired. Bond was set at $2,500 on the drug charges.

The sheriff’s office reported that a checkpoint was set up at Old Dothan Road and Seven Creeks Highway when the arrests occurred. Deputies saw the vehicle turn in at a driveway, then pull out a few minutes after midnight. A deputy executed a traffic stop, and noticed that driver smelled of alcohol.

In the console of the vehicle, deputies found eight grams of cocaine and two bills with cocaine residue. There was also more than $1,000 in cash in the console.
