Victim Pursues Suspects Despite Gunfire

Lightbar on a car

Two theft suspects allegedly opened fire on their victim as he chased them Saturday.

No one was injured, and a stolen truck and trailer were recovered in the incident.

James Britt told deputies that two individuals pulled into his yard in the 4000 block of Rough and Ready Road around 7:25 a.m. and hooked up a 16 foot utility trailer without his permission. Britt followed the suspects, the report said, who opened fire on him with an H&R Pardner shotgun, but he continued trailing the pair.

The suspects eventually unhooked the trailer and left it in the roadway and sped off in the 2006 model Ford truck. When they wrecked the vehicle on Frank Norris road, the report said, the two men fled on foot.

One of the suspects was described as a white male in his 20s. The other was said to be dark complected.

A records check showed the truck was reported stolen in South Carolina. The shotgun was found at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
