Deputy Narrowly Escapes Injury

A deputy escaped injury, a Boonville man went to jail, and a dog is in the Animal shelter after an incident at Green Acres early Wednesday.

John Joshua Timmons, 36, is being held under a $51,000 secured bond. He was charged with assault on a government official, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, drug paraphernalia, and animal cruelty. His address was listed on jail reports as 139 River Rd., Boonville. Timmons also had an outstanding warrant, records show.

The sheriff’s office reported that a deputy spotted Timmons’ ford SUV parked beside Pine circle drive just after midnight. The deputy approached the vehicle and observed Timmons apparently passed out in the front of the car, and a sleeping pit bull in the back seat.

When the deputy managed to awaken Timmons, the report said, Timmons refused to provide identification, and sped away, striking the deputy with the door of his vehicle. The Ford was wrecked on Green Acres Drive, and Timmons fled on foot.

The deputy found Timmons hiding under a vehicle in the yard of a residence, and Timmons allegedly attempted to flee again, but was caught and detained.

The dog was transported by Animal Protective Services and is being cared for at the county shelter.

The deputy was not seriously injured.
