Charles D. Hammond 77, of Whiteville passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Lon D. and Edna Rooks Hammond. He was a veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Duncan Hammond; stepsons, Jessie Long and Dennis Long ; brothers, Norman Hammond of  Jackson, MI and Jesse Hammond of Paisley, FL; sisters, Alice Creech of Whiteville, Helen Davis of Whiteville, Edna  Lane of Laurinburg; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, Benjamin Long; brothers, John Hammond, Calvin Hammond; sisters, Janie McCumbee, Martha Bullard,

Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Peacock’s Chapel by Rev. Buddy Seay. Interment will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Peacock Funeral Home.
