Varsity Boys Baseball:  The Wolfpack lost a close one to Laney last night at Legion Stadium 2-1. For the second game in a row the umpires played a role in stopping runs from being scored. Last night, with two runners on base, Ty Lawson hit a ball down the left field line that landed fair by at least a foot, the ball was called foul by the home plate umpire. Eventually a run scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Lawson to right field, but it was sure to be two runs across the plate and a potential big inning if the earlier contact was called fair. Ty Lawson was the starting pitcher for the Wolfpack, and he struck out 9 batters and gave up 3 hits and an earned run. There is more on this game in a separate story right here on Columbus County News.
