Joyride Becomes Brief Offroad Pursuit

Lightbar on a car

It’s all fun and games until the blue lights are activated.

Tyrone Allen Mills, 54, of 3397 Will Inman Rd., Tabor City, was charged with damaging personal property, failure to heed blue light and siren, and trespassing in the incident. His bond was set at $5,000.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a 911 caller said Mills was spinning tires through a field belonging to Ward Stocks. The property is beside Mills’ home. The sheriff’s office reported that no fewer than six calls were made to 911 about Mills driving a Chevrolet Cavalier in the field.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw the car “actively spinning” through the field. The deputies activated blue lights and sirens, at which point Mills allegedly began to flee through the field. The chase ended when the car couldn’t go any farther in the field.
