Trick-or-treaters are heading out to collect some goodies in Columbus County this weekend, and they will not be disappointed. This year there are opportunities all weekend long to give those costumes some wear and tear. • Ward Station Church of God will be having a drive-thru Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 30 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. There will be free hotdogs, and lots of candy. The event is free to the community. The church is located at 5478 Rough and Ready Road in Chadbourn.  

• Shiloh Church will be having a Trunk or Treat with a hotdog meal on Oct. 31. The hotdogs will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the Trunk or Treat will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The church is located at 7790 Hallsboro Road South in Whiteville.  

• The Whiteville Police, and Whiteville Fire Departments will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters on Oct. 31 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The first responders will be awaiting folks in the Whiteville City Hall parking lot.   

• Windy Butler of Lake Waccamaw will be hosting trick-or-treaters on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Her address is 506 Waccamaw Shores.    

Ocean Ridge Quilters recently made a generous donation to the Boys and Girls Home.

• The Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina recently received a generous donation of quilts from the Ocean Ridge Quilters. These custom-made items will be used to comfort children in the lake houses, cottages, the Harbor, and the CAC.  

The Home is always in need of blankets and quilts for the kids in their care. Donations can be dropped off at the main office at 400 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.  

• The North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department will be having their First Community Day Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The department will be having a free hotdog lunch, slides and goodies for the kids, and sweets from Darel’s Bakery and Sweets.  

Sparky the Firedog will visit North Whiteville Fire Department Oct. 30 for Community Day.

Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will be onsite for the little ones to meet and greet. Information will also be available for becoming a volunteer firefighter and joining the department. The North Whiteville Fire Department is located at 747 Peacock Road, Whiteville. 

• Columbus County Animal Services is now looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in playing with, walking, or helping to socialize some furbabies, please stop by shelter and fill out an application. Call 910.641.3945 for more information on how you can help.  

• Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department will be having their annual Turkey Shoot beginning Nov. 5, and run every Friday and Saturday night during the month. The shoot will also be open the night before Thanksgiving on Nov. 24. Guns will be locked and loaded starting at 7 p.m. Food and drinks will be available.  

• New Life Community Church will be presenting a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. The bazaar will include homemade baked goods, handcrafted items, clothing, jewelry, and much more. The church is located at 107 South Maultsby St., Whiteville.
