Olnie “Ollie” Corene Brown Hammond, age 91 of Whiteville, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Monday morning, September 6, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Ollie was born on June 9, 1930, and was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lucille Rogers Brown, her husband, Hilton Eugene “Gene” Hammond; her son, Dennis “Denny” Hammond; siblings, D.C. Brown, Mack Brown, James Brown, Malcolm Brown, Earl Brown, Doug Brown, Tom Brown, Evelyn Rogers, and Shelby B. White.

Funeral services will be announced soon.

Ollie was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Whiteville. She loved her family dearly and was a dedicated wife, mother, “MaMa” and friend.

Survivors include her children, Carol Shearin (Bobby) of Mooresville, Ann Meadows (Julius) of Cerro Gordo, Sharron Powell (Wesley) of Cerro Gordo, Kathy Barnes (Mike) of Chadbourn, Susan Jacobs (Timmy) of Nakina, Melissa Hewett (Jimmy) of Holden Beach; her sister, Barbara Ann Passmore of OK;16 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild to be born in October; special niece, Donna Hammond. Ollie also held two precious care-givers dear to her heart, Angelica Strickland and Jeremy Lunde.
