Lela Mae Hawes Ward, age 88, of Nakina, died Friday, September 10, 2021 in Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw.  Born August 5, 1933 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Vance Hawes and Evie Reaves Hawes and the widow of Donnie Pershing Ward.

She is survived by four daughters: Bonnie Long of Whiteville, Shirley Price of Nakina, Jane Harrelson of Whiteville, and Wanda Jones of Supply; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two special nieces: Cindy Davis of Ash and Sherri Robeson of Ash.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: James Donnie Ward and Charles Danny (Pete) Ward.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Ward Cemetery, Avery Ward Road, Nakina, NC.

The family will receive friends following the service in the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Pine Level Baptist Church, 2308 Pine Level Church Rd., Nakina, NC 28455.
