Eugene Charles Nelson 92, of Winnabow passed on  Sunday, August 15,  2021.  He was born November 8, 1928 in Redwood County, MN the son of the late Ernest Nelson and Ruth Hier Nelson.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Joyce Osborne Nelson; a brother, Roger Nelson and a sister, June Severns.

Mr. Nelson was a Petty Officer First Class in the US Navy and retired after serving 20 years. He served as Post Commander and member of VFW Post 4809.  He retired from Civil Service in Portsmouth,  VA.   He graduated from Springfield High School in MN.  

He is survived by three daughters,  Jacqueline Johnston and husband, Francisco of Winnabow, Marsha Hyde of Williamston, NC, Trisha Curling of Chesapeake, VA; a step daughter, DiAnna Dimeck of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Charles Nelson of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Gabriel Jacobs and Monica Lisi; many loving nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service with military honors will be at 3:00 pm  Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel, 1227 S. Madison St.,, Whiteville, NC 

His family will receive friends at 2:00 pm Saturday prior to his service at Peacock Funeral Home.
