Shooting suspect jailed in Whiteville

An arrest has been made in a shooting where one man was wounded and a juvenile almost hit by gunfire in Whiteville. 

Christopher Jerome Taylor, 43, was arrested by Whiteville Police July 19 for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, according to warrants. His bond was set at $52,500. Arrest records show his address as 402 W. Lewis St., Whiteville.

Taylor allegedly shot a handgun at a 14-year-old youth and wounded Demez Thompson June 26, the warrant states.

Whiteville Police reported finding Thompson at the corner of West Lewis and MLK by officers responding to a shots fired call. Thompson was transported to New Hanover Regional with life threatening injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
