Legrande Thompson

July 12, 2021

William Legrande Thompson, age 80, of Whiteville, passed away July 10, 2021 at his home following a long illness.  He was the son of the late William (Bill) H. Thompson and Forrest Stephens Thompson.  Preceding him in death is a sister, Mae Williamson.

Surviving members of his family are his wife of 59 years, Pearl  N. Thompson; a son, Richard L. Thompson of Kenly, NC; two sisters, Joanne Carroll and husband, Leroy of Bolton, Peggy Lahr of SC, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was owner and operator of Legrande Thompson Welding Shop for more than 40 years until his health started failing.  One of his greatest joys and fulfillment in life was his work and the chance it offered him to meet people from all walks of life.  The friendships that developed through his work were priceless and have lasted a lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel in Whiteville, with Rev. Buddy Seay officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:30 – 3:00 pm at Peacock Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank all of those who stood by them in their time of need and supported them throughout the past four to five years of Legrande’s life and illness up until his death. Thank you for the love shown by our friends and family, the visits, cards, phone calls and all the food that was prepared and given all the way and most importantly,  the prayers that  sustained them and gave so much strength to finish the course that God had laid out for them.  A special thanks to Dr. David Martin and Suzzanne, to Tammy and the Liberty Hospice Care team that were always there and ready to administer to Legrand’s every need and most always going above and beyond what was required of them.  May God bless you all.

Memorials may be made to the Beaverdam Freewill Baptist church, 2665 Beaverdam Rd., Chadbourn, NC 28431.
