The boot drop at Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue has become an Independence Day tradition. More than $3,400 was raised this year.

Lake Waccamaw firefighters were directing traffic at the fire station and the State Park boat landing Saturday, but not because of emergencies.
Firefighters and their families were out collecting money for the annual Boot Drop. Donations go to help fund needed equipment for the department.
Young visitors to the station also got to tour fire trucks, and get an idea of what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter.

This classic truck was just one of the many vehicles that came by the fundraiser Saturday.
Future firefighters go to tour the apparatus at the fire department and get an idea of what it takes to be a volunteer.
