Adoption Fair, rabies clinic Saturday

Dogs, cats, kittens and puppies will be available for adoption Saturday during a special event at the Columbus County Animal Shelter.

The adoption fair and rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Columbus Humane Society will be selling hot dogs.

The shelter is at capacity, and has dozens of pets of all ages and breeds in need of new homes.

Rabies vaccinations will also be available on-demand for $7. State law requires all dogs, cats and ferrets over three months of age have a current rabies vaccination. While no confirmed rabies cases have been reported here so far this year, rabies has been documented in neighboring counties.

Adoption fees for the event include a spay or neuter voucher and a rabies vaccine. The fee for dogs is $135. Female cats are $75, and male cats $50.

An updated gallery of available pets can be found on the Columbus Animal Protective Services’ Facebook page.
