Two Whiteville men are in custody after allegedly shooting a 17-year-old from Whiteville in Virginia.

The Amherst Co., Va. Sheriff’s office confirmed that Steve Burrell and Kivin Graham, both of Whiteville, were charged with “malicious discharge of a firearm” and firing from a motor vehicle in the May 31 incident.

Malachi Mullins, 17, of Whiteville had gone to a home in Amherst with family members to pick up a car. Deputies and Amherst town police were dispatched to a home on Sprouse Street to investigate a shots fired call, according to a news release from the Amherst Sheriff. While they were there, another 911 call reported that Mullins had been shot and was in a car several miles from the scene.

Deputies responded and attempted lifesaving measures, the release said, to no avail. Mullins was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The investigation is continuing.
