Man missing in Lake Waccamaw

A search boat heads out to join the effort to find the missing man.

7:45 update: Both boat landings are closed, and boaters are asked to stay off the lake while crews work to recover the missing man.

Rescue crews are combing Lake Waccamaw near Waccamaw Shores for a man who is missing and feared drowned.

The man was reportedly operating a jet ski pulling a tube with two children when he fell off.

Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue, Lake Waccamaw Rescue, Lake Police, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Wildlife Commission and state Park Rangers were called out shortly after 6 p.m. The man was reportedly swimming with two children, who returned to shore.

Boats equipped with sonar as well as divers have been deployed on the search.
