Tabor City Police received a call Monday from concerned funeral home personnel reporting the finding of a gun safe at a cemetery.

The safe was reportedly found pushed down into the water at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where it was then concealed by a tarp and covered over by foliage, TCPD Police Chief Donald Dowless said.

A 14 by 14 inch hole had been cut into the side of the safe and the code number pad broken off.  The safe itself was found empty.

“We don’t know if someone had it and doesn’t realize it’s gone,” Dowless said,  “but nobody has reported it missing.”

There’s no identifying marks on the safe, but if you have any information on a possible owner, please contact the Tabor City Police Department at 910.653.3149.
