Katie Smith Thompson 81, of Whiteville passed on Wednesday April  28, 2021 at her home.  Born March 14, 1940 in Brunswick County, the daughter of the late Sidney K. Smith & Lura Babson Smith Simmons. Preceded in death 2002 by her husband of 39 years, Lawrence Hubert Thompson.

Katie graduated from Waccamaw High School and attended Wingate College.  She formerly owned and operated The Fabric Center in Whiteville in the 60’s and 70’s. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Whiteville and a member of the Whiteville Garden Club.

Services were held May 1, 2021 Whiteville Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Fred Senter & Dr. Wayne Brown officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church,  412 N. Madison St., Whiteville, NC 28472
