The Whiteville woman charged with felony hit and run in a Shallotte death was herself a shooting victim earlier in December.

Tabitha Ann Reaves, 21, was arrested by authorities in Whiteville. She is being held under $50,000 secured bond, charged with felony hit and run.

Mitchell Wayne Griffith was struck and killed while riding a bicycle on U.S. 17 near Shallotte, according to officials. He was apparently trying to cross the highway when he was struck by Reaves’ 2009 BMW. She allegedly fled the scene without stopping.

A witness got her license tag, and police tracked her to her home in Whiteville.

Reaves was shot Dec. 9 in Tabor City, according to the sheriff’s office. Stephon Miller, Allegriana Johnson, Jaquan Malik McCray and a juvenile were in a vehicle near Reaves’ car on Complex Street when Reaves was shot. A male passenger Reaves’ vehicle drove her to Loris McCloud Hospital.

She was critically wounded while shielding her small child from the gunfire. A passerby was also cut by flying glass when his truck window was shattered. All four suspects were jailed under secured bonds for multiple felonies.
