A child custody dispute escalated after a man allegedly fired a shotgun near a deputy Jan. 12.

Scottie Mack Nobles, 37, of 1037 Hickory Hill rd., Chadbourn, was charged with resist, obstruct or delay and officer. He was held under a $4,000 secured bond.

The sheriff’s office reported that a deputy went to Nobles’ home around 7 p.m. to perform a welfare check on a child. While the deputy was in the yard, Nobles allegedly came outside and fired one round from a shotgun toward the deputy.

Additional deputies responded, and Nobles was taken into custody without further incident.

No one was injured in the shooting.
