Man reported missing in city

UPDATE: John Maples has been located and is safe, according to the Whiteville Police.

Whiteville Police are searching for a man reported missing early Wednesday (today).

John Maples, 54, was reported missing just after 5 a.m., according to Lt. s. Moddy of the Whiteville Police. He is 6’1” tall and weighs 350 pounds. Maples was last seen wearing a black cap, blue zippered jacket, red shirt, blue pants, and white shoes.

He was last reported in the vicinity of Thompson and Jefferson streets downtown.

“We just want to make sure he is okay,” Moody said.
