Tabor inmate dies from COVID

An inmate at Tabor City Correctional has died from COVID-19, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The inmate, in his 60s, had underlying health problems, the prison system said in a press release.

Tabor currently has the highest number of COVID cases in any prison in the state, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. As of today (Tuesday), the prison has 162 active cases. The Columbus County Health Department said Monday that 95 of the county’s most recent cases are at Tabor or Columbus correctional.
