One dead, one airlifted after Sellerstown shooting

A small gun

UPDATED at 10:25

One man was killed and another shot in the face on Sellerstown Road near Chadbourn Sunday night, Sheriff Jody Greene said.

The wounded individual was transported to Columbus Regional by Whiteville Rescue. He was later airlifted to New Hanover Regional in critical condition. His grandson, who is 23, was killed. The two were apparently answering a Craigslist ad about a Camaro that was for sale, the sheriff said.

“The grandfather sells used cars in Cumberland County,” Greene said. “Other family members confirmed that he and his grandson went to the location to purchase the car that he saw on a Craigslist ad.”

The older victim was responsive and was found inside a vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The younger victim was on the ground nearby. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Sellerstown Road.

The two victims, whose names have not been released, were from Cumberland County, Greene said. Detectives have been working on the case nonstop since the 7 p.m. 911 call Sunday.
The killing was the twelfth in Columbus this year. The last murder occurred in October, when David Kadeem Hemingway was shot to death and several others people injured near Tabor City.

There are no suspects at this time. This is a developing story.
