WPD charges one for Happy Mart incident

Whiteville Police have charged the suspect in the Sept. 12 shooting incident at the Happy Mart.

Marcellino Sprauve, 40, was arrested Tuesday and charged with going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a firearm in the city, communicating threats and possession of tobacco in a jail. He is being held under $26,000 secured bond, according to arrest reports.

Sprauve is alleged to have entered the Happy Mart at Virgil and Powell Boulevard with a .22 caliber firearm, made threatening statements, then exited the building Saturday. Once outside he fired a number of rounds before fleeing the scene. No one was injured in the incident.

His address was listed on jail documents as 471 Baldwin Circle, Whiteville.
