The sheriff’s office is investigating several assaults that occurred over the weekend.

Friday, Peresha Jenerette and Tyreek Philip of Goins Road, Chadbourn, reported that two men entered the couple’s bedroom wearing face masks. One was carrying a gun, and the other appeared to have a knife, the sheriff’s office reported. The suspects robbed the couple and fled the scene on foot.

A Whiteville woman was severely beaten and robbed by a couple carrying a baseball bat Saturday night. Jamie Marlowe, 45, reported that she was walking in the vicinity of Bishford Road when a vehicle approached her.  The man and woman inside began arguing with her, and both subjects then reportedly struck Marlowe in the body with a baseball bat..  Marlowe was taken to the hospital for treatment.  She sustained multiple broken bones and lacerations.  The couple also took Marlowe’s debit card and check.  The male suspect, John McCumbee, has been arrested and charges are pending for the female.

Kristina Maresca and Ronald Stewart reported a home invasion Sunday, when four individuals broke into their Goins Road home, struck Maresca and attempted to kidnap Stewart. The four assailants fled in a vehicle.

The same day, Richard Johnson reported that four men came to his Greens Mill Road home near Silver Spoon and opened fire on the property. The home was struck, but there were no injuries.
