A detective working on another investigation ended up literally chasing down a new case just after midnight Monday morning.

Det. Paul Rockenbach was on Seven Creeks Highway in Nakina when he spotted a four-wheeler erratically heading south on the paved roadway. When the detective attempted to perform a traffics top, the sheriff’s office said, William Shane Rhodes allegedly fled down a dirt road into a path through a wooded area.

Other officers responded, and they surrounded the area. Rhodes was captured on Hoover Road and Ervin Richardson, and faces multiple traffic charges, including driving while impaired and felony fleeing to elude arrest.

Rhodes gave his address as 1976 Manley Smith Rd., Nakina. His bond was set at $8,500 secured.

Sheriff Jody Greene said he is proud of the great teamwork the investigators and deputies exhibited during this search.

“Generally speaking, one will accomplish more holding their head high instead of their middle finger.”

This investigation is ongoing.  Additional charges are possible.
