Man critical after stabbing

One man is in critical condition and another is in jail after a stabbing and fight Saturday on Peacock Road.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were called to a Smyrna Road address around 5:20 p.m. Oscar Gutturuiz, 43, of Whiteville was stabbed and had additional injuries to his head and neck.  He was at the Smyrna Road residence, according to the report, but was transported to Columbus Regional with critical injuries.

The investigation showed that  Gutturuiz was involved in an altercation with Maximo Reyes-Rivadeneyra at the latter’s residence at 3895 Peacock Road.  Due to the language barrier, deputies had difficulty collecting all the information about the fight.

Reyes-Rivandeneyra, 42, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.  His bond was set at $25,000 secured.        

Gutturuiz was transported to the CRHS hospital for treatment of his injuries.  He is in critical condition, according to the hospital.
